Overview
00 · The filmWorld Playground is a music video for Rich P. Top Tier, shot across the karst valleys, caves, and temples of Ninh Binh, Vietnam. Working from the track’s concept and the meaning behind “playground,” I developed the visual around that idea, treating the landscape as the artist’s playground. It follows him through the fields, up the temples and pagodas, and into the caves, as if everything around him belongs to him.
2BigProduction handed me their client. From there I carried the project from start to finish, handling the client directly, building the concept and treatment, planning the shoot, and running the location scout across Ninh Binh. I filmed it, edited it, and delivered the final video, so the whole thing, from the first conversation with the artist to the final export, ran through me.

The Process
01 · Client to deliveryA recap of how it was built. Open a phase to read more.
The initial build was constructed around the artist’s passion and growth, which came from his travels and the cultural experiences of his past. This became a central theme for the music video, capturing Ninh Binh’s landscape and scenery while staying consistent with the artist’s words.
Once the vision was laid out, the visual treatment could take shape. After extensive research on Ninh Binh’s locations and local history, we highlighted the options we could execute, the ones that kept a consistent story and flow throughout, while also experimenting with visual techniques to push the production further.

Treatment board · moodboard · the client’s brief
Location scouting began a couple of weeks out from the shoot, just enough to have consistent weather and lighting conditions while checking each concept and location we had planned. We tested a range of parameters at each location: accessibility, permits, lighting conditions, visual and demo camera tests, and the peak and low hours of tourism.
These conditions were all a priority for our logistics analysis, and for setting our timings at each location from morning to night. As we locked down locations, we slowly eliminated options from the initial concept. From there, we produced a rough route for the day of the shoot, which let us organize and prepare the production.

Ninh Binh tech scout
After the scout, we presented the updated locations and the options to Richard in a location proposal. From there, we developed a new plan, based on everything the scout had gathered.

From the location proposal
From the new plan, we calculated the timing and hours for each location, then planned out the schedule. We gave enough time for company moves and filming, while keeping room in case we ran into any issues. Once the schedule was finalized, we built out the rest of the production resources and assets, assembling the full shoot based on everything we had prepared.
